Project Overview
CommuniCare, one of the nation's largest providers of post-acute care, contracted Diverzify National Accounts (DNA) to handle renovations across 30 of their buildings within a three-year period, starting in 2020. Due to our successful execution, an additional 10 buildings were subsequently added to the project in 2021. By the end of the contract, we had completed over 32 full building renovations, with remaining buildings either sold or deferred by the client. Each project was tailored to the specific needs of the location, ranging from common areas and corridors to complete overhauls of resident units.
Products Used: Mannington Spacia Wood (3 SKUs), Johnsonite Cove Base, Milliken Walk Off in vestibules.

Diverzify’s Role
DNA was involved from initiation to completion, handling consultation, estimating, proposals, procurement of materials, and execution of installations. Operating within occupied senior environments required meticulous planning and transparent communication. Our process included pre-construction calls to review expectations and timing, providing detailed phasing schedules, daily progress forms, and formal punch walks upon completion.
Collaborations: Worked with Epoxy SI and our Columbus, Cincinnati, and Indianapolis offices.
Challenges Faced
Ensuring life safety in occupied senior environments was paramount. This involved:
-
1
Avoiding trip hazards and securing tools.
-
2
Properly managing entry and exit protocols.
-
3
Using caution tape and cones to highlight active work areas.
-
4
Strategically splitting corridors to maintain clear paths for nurses and residents.
Strategies for Success
Communication: Key to mitigating challenges was establishing clear expectations upfront and maintaining daily updates. Our daily forms included work areas, schedule status, and photos, keeping both our team and the corporate client informed and aligned.
Single Point of Contact: A dedicated contact streamlined the process from corporate to community level, ensuring consistent quality and adherence to CommuniCare’s standards. This approach resolved previous issues with disparate product selections and inconsistent quality.
Solutions Implemented
- Standardization: Ensured uniformity in material standards and quality across all locations.
- Centralized Procurement: Leveraged CommuniCare’s size for competitive pricing on materials and labor.
- Daily Reporting: Provided real-time updates and progress photos to maintain transparency and address any concerns promptly.
Results and Outcomes
Our successful management of the initial contract led to an additional three-year MSA covering 51 more locations. Our efficiency, attention to safety, and minimal disruption approach have set a new standard for CommuniCare. We maintained schedules, budgets, and clear communication, ensuring operational continuity and safety for residents and staff while controlling costs at each location.
Conclusion
DNA's comprehensive project management and dedicated service model have proven to be a transformative partnership for CommuniCare, enhancing their operational efficiency and ensuring high standards across all their facilities.
