Innovative Flooring Strategy for M&M’S World Times Square NYC
RD Weis transformed M&M’s World Times Square NYC with a detailed flooring plan covering 15,500 square feet. They used custom-color Centiva flooring to match the iconic M&M's colors, with at least 800 square feet per color. The goal was to create a lively and dynamic environment that reflects the brand's "Colorful Chocolate Fun" essence, with a design that guides visitors through the store.
Durability and safety were key due to the high-traffic nature of this retail location. The flooring materials were chosen for their strength and resilience to handle the constant flow of visitors. The installation included Roppe stair treads, Mapei adhesive, Mats Inc. walk-off mats, Schluter strips, and NeverStrip floor sealing.
Overcoming Installation Challenges in Times Square: RD Weis's Approach
Logistics were critical to this project's success. The installation was done overnight in phases to keep the store open from 9 a.m. to midnight daily. The project had to be completed by Thanksgiving, adding to its complexity.
Sections of the sales floor were closed for 48-hour periods, with work done between midnight and 9 a.m. The RD Weis team worked closely with store management to move M&M's displays, ensuring smooth progress. The central Times Square location required precise coordination for equipment and materials.
Floor preparation, including grinding, began weeks in advance to meet the deadline. The installation involved precise cutting around columns throughout the store. While the third floor was finished in one night, the first and second floors each took a week, with NeverStrip sealing applied in stages for a flawless, durable finish.
This project not only improved the look of M&M’s World Times Square but also showcased RD Weis’s ability to complete large, complex projects on time, reinforcing their leadership in commercial flooring.
