Built for Young Learners
Developed for Northwest ISD, the new Dr. David Hicks Early Childhood Center was designed to blend traditional classroom instruction with hands-on, experience-based learning. Working alongside architect Huckabee and general contractor McCownGordon Construction, Spectra Contract Flooring Dallas helped bring the school's vision to life through flooring solutions that support both functionality and creativity.
The team installed Interface Norament tile, Milliken Sound of Color carpet, and AVA 2VRSE LVT throughout the facility, delivering a flooring package designed to perform in a high-traffic educational environment while complementing the school's innovative design.
Flooring That Helps Tell the Story
A central feature of the school is its four seasonal learning pods: Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. Each pod is complemented by corresponding ceiling features and has experience-based learning spaces integrated alongside traditional classrooms. Students rotate between experiences, creating opportunities for discovery, engagement, and learning from different perspectives while maintaining a strong classroom foundation.
To help support those immersive environments, Spectra Contract Flooring Dallas installed a variety of custom flooring features throughout the facility. Intricate inlaid designs were used to create elements such as train tracks, airplane runways, rivers, ocean floors, and planets, transforming the floor into an extension of the educational experience.
The project required detailed pattern work, precise layout coordination, and close attention to design details. By combining custom inlays with thoughtfully coordinated materials, the team helped create visual cues that guide students through the building while reinforcing the unique character of each learning space.
Adapting to Keep the Project Moving
Working on an accelerated schedule required close coordination from the start. As construction progressed, several themed areas underwent design updates, requiring installation plans and flooring details to be adjusted on the fly.
Spectra Contract Flooring Dallas remained flexible throughout the process, accommodating evolving requirements while helping keep the project on track. Through proactive coordination and problem-solving, the team successfully navigated changes without compromising the overall vision for the facility.
Designed for Years of Learning
Today, the Dr. David Hicks Early Childhood Center provides students and educators with an environment designed to encourage curiosity, movement, and engagement. From the seasonal learning pods and corresponding design elements to the custom flooring details woven throughout the building, every space was thoughtfully planned to support the educational experience.
Through collaboration, adaptability, and attention to detail, Spectra Contract Flooring Dallas was proud to help deliver a one-of-a-kind facility that will serve Northwest ISD students for years to come.
